Resource Fiber Moso bamboo culmsResource Fiber is pioneering the U.S. commercial bamboo industry, bringing a versatile and beneficial crop to the U.S. beginning in the State of Alabama. Imagine locally farmed and processed bamboo - a powerful economic engine with positive environmental outcomes. In addition to creating new agricultural and manufacturing jobs, Resource Fiber will propagate and farm bamboo, manufacture innovative products such as bamboo flooring and furniture, and supply industrial users with bamboo fiber — all ‘Made in the USA’ for industrial use, consumer goods and export.Over the last several decades, bamboo has been introduced as a highly useful and versatile material to the North American market. Given its rapidly renewable nature, it was quickly adopted as a viable and attractive alternative to wood – and a giant industry has emerged with bamboo appearing in products such as flooring, furniture and linens. The challenge remains that all of the bamboo used is grown overseas. This has the disadvantage of large transportation-related environmental impacts and missed opportunities to create domestic jobs and industry. Resource Fiber intends to change all that. Our global objectives are to:reduce the pressure on the world’s natural forests by providing alternative fiber and productsdrive change from a petroleum-based society to a bio-based societycreate an industry that is carbon negative, off-grid and that follows the principles of the International Living Future Institute.Resource Fiber is developing a suite of programs to engage communities and grow collaborative partnerships with regional colleges, universities, businesses, NGOs and government agencies. By supporting innovative job training and educational programs, launching new industries and related employment opportunities, we intend to be both a good business and a good neighbor.Resource Fiber is growing bamboo in commercial farming operations in and surrounding the Alabama Black Belt region to create sustainable regional economic development, industry innovation and associated new employment opportunities. Historically an agricultural region - with remarkable soils and temperate climate - the opportunities are immense to introduce this powerful new domestic industry.Imagine new opportunities and new wealth created in the communities that need it most, providing living wage jobs in meaningful, productive industry. New partnerships with Alabama institutions and government provide catalysts to innovation, propagating bamboo, testing new products and providing the research support needed for sustained growth. The company will develop new croplands and manufacturing facilities in the Black Belt and surrounding areas. Why Now?There have been three major challenges to establishing a commercial scale bamboo industry outside of China and other parts of Asia where native bamboo stands have existed for centuries.Resource Fiber has addressed these challenges in its approach as outlined below:ChallengeOur ApproachCost efficient propagation of plants at commercial scale.Resource Fiber has a proven and proprietary propagation technology designed for commercial scale.Lack of industrial infrastructure to justify commercial planting.Resource Fiber develops the full industry vertical as part of each project, ensuring long-term off-take agreements and durable investment protection for both farmers and industry.Long timeline for return on investment with initial harvest four to six years after planting.Resource Fiber fabricates certain bamboo products during the initial growth period by importing preprocessed bamboo slats. The sale of these products will generate early revenue and provide a platform for innovation.New Industries for the Black Belt Example of Manufacturing + Educational ComplexBreaking ground in 2014, the Bamboo Manufacturing & Innovation Center will be strategically located in or surrounding the Black Belt driving revenue to the region. In 2020, a state-of-the-art Manufacturing & Educational Complex will be built to serve as the showcase for the potential of a U.S.-based bamboo products industry.Bamboo industries will demonstrate leadership and vitality across many domains and sectors of business, including, but not limited to:Agriculture (farming, agro-forestry);Energy (charcoal, ethanol, pellets, biomass);Building products (flooring, furniture, other engineered building components);Food and beverage (animal feedstock, bamboo beer);Water and air purification (activated charcoal/carbon powder, carbon sequestration);Biochar (organic soil enhancement, fertilizer)Bio-plastics (alternative to petroleum-based plastics);Transportation (railroad ties, automotive components);Aerospace (aviation industry components); andSpecialty textiles (anti-bacterial applications for healthcare, bedding, clothing, towels, performance apparel). For more information, please contact us.LeadershipResource Fiber is comprised of leaders with extensive regional and international interdisciplinary experiences spanning business and entrepreneurial development; academic and research pursuits; leadership, management and finance responsibilities; and community engagement among other pertinent areas. In addition, our Advisory Board includes leading experts in bamboo propagation and cultivation, as well as patent holders of high-value engineered bamboo products.Committed to the Triple Bottom LineThe company is built on the tenets of the Triple Bottom Line whose foundation is based on the well-being of the people and communities where the company conducts its business (people), sound and sustainable environmental practices (planet), and sterling financial performance (profit).
